Disney and Marvel are cutting ties with “Loki,” and “Ant-Man: Quantamania,” actor Jonathan Majors after he was found guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment charges in New York City today.
According to Deadline, a Marvel representative says Majors will no longer reprise his role in the upcoming “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” (2026) movie or in any other future project in the MCU.
Majors plays He Who Remains/Nathaniel Richards in Marvel’s “Loki” seasons 1 (2021) and 2 (2023) on Disney+ and Kang the Conquerer in Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” (2023).
Majors also starred in critically-acclaimed movies such as “Creed III” (2023) and “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” (2019).
No word yet on if Disney/Marvel will steer clear of projects involving the character Kang the conquerer or if they will replace Majors with another actor. The studio is not shy in replacing actors in the MCU. Don Cheadle replaced Terrance Howard as Tony Stark’s friend James Rhodes (Rhodey) for Iron Man II (2010) after talks between Howard and the studio went south. Rhodey’s character later becomes a superhero in his own right known as War Machine.
Guilty Verdict
The news that Disney and Marvel have fired Jonathan Majors comes after a two-week trial which ended with a jury finding Majors guilty of two out of four criminal charges brought against him.
Majors continues to maintain his innocence through his lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, but has not publicly commented on the case himself. He did not testify in the trial after Jabbari testified for several days.
Jabbari claims that on March 25 she saw a text message on Majors’ cell phone from another woman while in a private car. She testified that when she grabbed his phone, Majors physically assaulted her.
Prosecutors said after Jabbari grabbed his phone, Majors slapped Jabbari’s face and fractured one of her middle fingers.
Majors’ lawyer told the jury he did not physically assault his ex-girlfriend and that it was Majors who suffered injuries during the incident in the form of scratches.
Hours after the incident, Majors was arrested after he returned to their apartment to find Jabbari unconscious and he called 911.
Majors is facing up to a year in prison. Sentencing is set for Feb. 6.
